Maye Musk, a Canadian-born model and dietitian, began her modeling career at the age of 15 in South Africa. Over the decades, she has built an impressive portfolio, appearing on the covers of major magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Time. In a striking testament to her enduring appeal, Maye made headlines in 2022 when she became the oldest model to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issues at age 74.

Elon’s father, Errol Musk, is a South African electromechanical engineer and property developer whose life has been marked by controversy and complexity. Born in 1946, Errol has been described as a brilliant engineer, but his personal life has overshadowed many of his professional achievements. His relationship with Elon has been strained for years, with Elon famously labeling him a “terrible human being” in interviews. Errol Musk has faced scrutiny for various personal controversies. Notably, he fathered two children with his former stepdaughter, who is 42 years his junior, which has drawn public outrage and criticism.

Additionally, he has faced rumors of having killed three people in self-defense. However, these claims remain unverified. Another point of contention is Errol’s assertion that he owned an Emerald mine in Zambia, which Elon has denied, stating on Twitter, “He didn’t own an emerald mine, and I worked my way through college, ending up ~$100k in student debt.”

Elon Musk has two siblings: Kimbal and Tosca. Kimbal is a thriving food industry entrepreneur known for co-founding The Kitchen Restaurant Group. He remains close to Elon and often collaborates on various initiatives. Kimball also serves on the boards of Tesla and SpaceX, contributing his insights to their operations.

Grandparents: Adventurers and Pioneers

Elon Musk’s adventurous spirit can be traced back to his maternal grandparents, Dr. Joshua Norman Haldeman and Wyn Haldeman, who were notable figures in their own right. Dr. Galdeman, a chiropractor and political activist, was deeply involved in the Technocracy movement, which advocated for a society governed by technical exports. His passion for exploration led him and his family on numerous expeditions to find the legendary Lost City of the Kalahari, a quest that captivated them for nearly a decade. Despite never discovering the city, their twelve expeditions made them minor celebrities as they shared tales of their adventures.

Dr. Haldman’s life was not without controversy; he was known for his strong opinions and activism, which put him at odds with societal norms. His adventurous pursuits and technocratic ideals likely influenced Elon Musk’s identity and aspirations in technology and space exploration. The legacy of exploration and innovation from his grandparents has shaped Elon into continuing his pursuit of projects like SpaceX and Tesla with the same spirit that characterized his family’s history.

Early Life and Entrepreneurial Journey

Elon Musk demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit early on at just 12 years old. He created a video game called Blaster, which he sold for $500. SpaceX: Revolutionizing Space Exploration

Founded in 2002, SpaceX has transformed the landscape of space exploration to reduce the cost of space travel and enable the colonization of Mars. The company made headlines in 2008 when its Falcon 1 became the first privately developed liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit. SpaceX has since achieved numerous milestones, including the successful launch and landing of the Falcon 9 rocket, which has been reused multiple times, lowering launch costs. As of 2023, SpaceX was valued at approximately $350 billion, making it the world’s most valuable private startup. The company has launched over 200 missions, including deploying thousands of satellites for its Starlink internet service. By January 2025, Starlink had grown to include over 4,000 satellites in orbit, with plans to enhance coverage and capacity even more.
