After one year of the Wilson 3D Airless Prototype Basketball at the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk event, Wilson Sporting Goods released less than 200 units of its limited edition, 3D-printed airless basketball named Airless Gen1 on February 16th, 2024. The Airless Gen1 comes in three colors: black, brown, and natural (off-white). 

Let me tell you about the amazing Wilson Airless Gen1 basketball. It’s not your average basketball. Rather than being inflated, the Airless Gen1 relies on a 3D-printed polymer lattice structure consisting of 8 panel-like lobes and a familiar seam structure, with hexagonal holes across the surface. This allows air to pass through freely, maintaining its shape and bounce without the need for air. The absence of air makes it more durable over time, so it’ll last you a long time! You don’t have to worry about deflating the ball. Traditional basketballs are typically made from leather or synthetic materials filled with air. Surprisingly, the basketball performs and functions almost as well as an inflated ball, including its weight, size, and rebound (bounce). The only difference in functionality is the sound, which is much less than a traditional inflated ball.
